ECREEE and Government of Cabo Verde Award Regional Green Energy Certificates

Praia, 6 November 2026 – The ECOWAS Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE), in partnership with the Government of Cabo Verde, awarded regional certificates to certified professionals under the ECOWAS Programme for the Certification of Competences in Sustainable Energy, following the successful completion of the second regional certification examination for off-grid solar photovoltaic technicians (Level I). The examination was conducted in Praia from 8 to 11 December 2025, in collaboration with the Institute for Quality Management and Intellectual Property (IGQPI) and the Centre for Renewable Energy and Industrial Maintenance (CERMI), where 17 technicians were certified.

The award ceremony was attended by ECREEE’s Acting Executive Director Mr. Gibson Obasi, IGQPI’s Executive Administrator Mrs. Joana Morais Flor, and CERMI’s Board Chairman Mr. Gilson Correia, and was presided over by the Minister of Industry, Trade and Energy, Eng. Alexandre Monteiro, who congratulated the trainees on achieving a regionally valid certification that enhances professional mobility across ECOWAS Member States. He further highlighted that the certification strengthens the energy sector by providing companies with technicians qualified to regional and international standards, thereby improving competitiveness, expanding business opportunities, and generating positive economic impact.

In his remarks, the Acting Executive Director of ECREEE, Gibson Obasi, underscored the importance of the certification programme as a significant step toward strengthening sustainable energy in the region, through the promotion of high-quality training aimed at enhancing the technical skills of photovoltaic technicians.

This certification forms part of ECREEE’s ongoing efforts across the ECOWAS region to mobilize a skilled and competent workforce, strengthen investor confidence in renewable energy and energy efficiency, and promote the deployment of solar photovoltaic systems that meet high international quality standards.
