For the second year in a row, RCREEE participated at the World Future Energy Summit 2014. Dr. Tareq Emtairah, RCREEE Executive Director moderated a panel discussion on energy efficiency for the industrial sector. During his speech, Dr. Emtairah highlighted energy subsidies as a major reason behind the inefficient use of energy in the Arab region. Besides, the prevalence of an inefficient electricity infrastructure results in energy losses in generation, transmission and distribution. The region energy loss average reached 19.4% which is higher than the world’s average (8.3%).
Dr. Emtairah also assured that reducing electricity transmission and distribution losses to 10% in all countries could save the region around 7,300 MW of power, equivalent to $5.5 billion of new investments.
The 7th World Future Energy Summit (WFES) 2014 held under the patronage of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces. The event took place in Abu Dhabi from 20-22 January at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre. The theme for WFES this year was ‘Powering the future of energy innovation and investment’.
