The Regional Center for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (RCREEE) and the African Energy Commission (AFREC) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on 16 August 2017.
The MoU aims to improve, enhance and operationalize RCREEE and AFREC cooperation in support of regional and continental efforts in the area of energy access and energy security development, including the contribution of renewable energy and energy efficiency to electricity generation in Africa.
In addition, it contributes to achieve the Sustainable Development Goal on energy (SDG7) to ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy.
The MoU covers areas of cooperation related to capacity building, exchange of data and information, joint project or studies, joint organization of workshops and seminars and any other area(s) relating to energy development.

The African Energy Commission (AFREC) is a continental African structure with the responsibility to ensure, co-ordinate and harmonize the protection, preservation, development and the national exploitation, marketing and integration of the energy resources of the African continent.
