Cairo, Egypt- December 3, 2017: The Regional Center for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (RCREEE) welcomed with great honor, a delegation from Republic of Yemen headed by H.E the minister of Electricity and Energy in Yemen, Eng. Abdullah Al-Akwa. The delegation composed from Yemen Ambassador in Egypt, Dr. Mohammed Ali Maram, the technical advisor to the minister, Dr. Towfick Sufian and Dr. Hamoud Al Kodamy, embassy counselor.
The day started with a short presentation by RCREEE Executive Director, Dr. Ahmed Badr and planning director, Eng. Ashraf Kraidy on the Arab sustainable energy status and the center activities. The delegation met RCREEE team and exchanged remarks on RCREEE role in the region and recent study “Assessment of the status of solar PV in Yemen” in cooperation with the World Bank.
In addition, RCREEE and the Yemeni Ministry of Electricity and Energy (“YMOEE”) signed a new MOU. It aims at expanding and upscaling the cooperation between the two parties. It included various cooperative areas aiming at establishing partnerships among YMOEE, RCREEE and potential IFIs for the after-war reconstruction efforts in the Republic of Yemen through RE and EE utilization. Also, the MOU regulated needed capacity building activities leading to the successful implementation of RE & EE projects.
“RCREEE role in the region is of a great value given the importance of sustainable energy for Arab nations nowadays. I am also very glad to see that RCREEE embraces Arab young talents and equip them with needed knowledge and skills to push the adoption of renewable energy and energy efficiency practices.,” Said H.E Eng. Al-Akwa.
“In light of the challenges facing Yemen and other member states, we are determined more than ever to support Arab countries in building a better future for all our people. We strongly believe that sustainable energy is one of the main factors in the stabilization and flourishment of livelihoods,” Said Ahmed Badr, RCREEE Executive Director.
