Prime minister of Cabo Verde and President of the ECOWAS Commission in new ECREEE premises

Praia, October 11, 2023 - In a momentous occasion, the ECOWAS Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE) marked a historic chapter in its journey as the new premises were unveiled by the Prime Minister of Cabo Verde, Dr. Ulisses Correia e Silva and the President of the ECOWAS Commission, Dr. Omar Alieu Touray in the city of Praia, Cabo Verde. The ceremony, graced by a distinguished governmental delegation, included the presence of the Minister of Industry, Commerce, and Energy, and the ECOWAS Commissioner for Energy, Mines and Digitalization.

The unveiling ceremony was a testament to the commitment of Cabo Verde to sustainable energy practices and the pivotal role played by ECREEE in advancing renewable energy and energy efficiency initiatives across the ECOWAS region.

The Prime Minister, in his address, highlighted the pivotal role of ECREEE in spearheading initiatives that transcend national boundaries, emphasizing the need for collective efforts in addressing the challenges posed by climate change. Dr. Ulisses Correia e Silva expressed his confidence that the new premises would serve as a hub for innovation, collaboration, and knowledge exchange, further solidifying Cabo Verde's position as a regional leader in sustainable development.

The President of the ECOWAS Commission, stressed in the important role played by ECREEE in the last 13 years of operation stressing the Centre as a key agency in of the ECOWAS Commission in a region that has high ambition towards sustainable energy access.

The Executive Director of ECREEE, Mr. Francis Sempore, welcomed the distinguished guests and expressed gratitude for Cabo Verde's unwavering support. He highlighted ECREEE's ongoing initiatives in promoting renewable energy and energy efficiency across the ECOWAS region. The Resident Representative of the President of the ECOWAS Commission, Dr. Samuel Lamptey, conveyed the regional significance of Cabo Verde's hosting of the ECREEE headquarters, emphasizing the shared vision for a sustainable and energy-efficient West Africa.

As the plaque was unveiled, marking the official inauguration of the new ECREEE premises, it signaled a new chapter in the regional pursuit of sustainable energy solutions.
