Managing Director of ADA participating at SACREEE Launch and visiting SOLTRAIN Installations in Windhoek, on 24 October 2018

Dr. Martin Ledolter, Managing Director of the Austria Development Agency (ADA), participated at the official Launch of SACREEE on 24 October 2018. ADA is a core donor to SACREEE and supports the Global Network of Regional Sustainable Energy Centres. In his key note statement Dr Ledolter highlighted the importance of regional cooperation and Austrias support to the establishment of regional sustainable energy centres such as SACREEE. He also participated in the Round Table discussion of SACREEE partners, with the Theme “Promoting Sustainable Energy for Infrastructure Development through Regional Cooperation”.

Key Note Speech

 

During his mission to Windhoek, Dr Ledolter visited the beneficiaries of the successful Southern African Solar Thermal Training and Demonstration Initiative (SOLTRAIN) project in Namibia. SOLTRAIN is funded by ADA and co-financed by the OPEC Fund for International Development (OFID). The focus of SOLTRAIN is to contribute to reducing energy poverty by improving access to sustainable energies, specifically solar thermal solutions and is designed to support and contribute to the implementation of the different energy policies of the target countries that enhance the use of solar thermal systems. Partner countries of SOLTRAIN are Botswana, Lesotho, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, and Zimbabwe. The project is currently in its third phase.

The following systems were visited by Dr Ledolter accompanied by staff from the Namibia University of Science and Technology (NUST), Namibia Energy Institute (NEI), Windhoek Vocational Training Centre (WVTC), National Training Authority (NTA), National Youth Service (NYS) and Trinity Business Solution (TBS).

  1. The first collector manufactured in Namibia by the participants of Train the Trainer Courses carried out under SOLTRAIN II. The collector was manufactured by the Vocational Educational Trainers, Kayec Training Trust, National Youth Service, NamWater Human Resource Development Centre and National Training Authority, with the assistance from the Deutsche Gesellschaft Fur Internationale Zusammenarbert’s (GIZ) ProVet programme. The collector was also exhibited during the official launch of SACREEE.
  2. A Solar Water Heater Trailer – A training rig provided to NUST within the SOLTRAIN – the trailer was also exhibited at the launch of SACREEE.
  3. Installation of 62 Solar Water Heaters, installation of 300L Photovoltaic water Heater and 300L Solar Water Heater at the National Housing Enterprise (NHE) in Otjomuise .
  4. Installation of 13 Solar Water Heater at Windhoek Vocational training Centre and plumbing workshop: He met the Windhoek Vocational Training Centre Principal

Within his mission, Dr Ledolter also paid a courtesy visit to the Vice Chancellor of NUST, Prof. Tjama Tjivikua. NUST is the main SOLTRAIN implementing partner in Namibia.
