ECREEE AND PARTNERS COMMEMORATE WORLD ENERGY DAY

The ECOWAS Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE) is set to commemorate “ECOWAS Day” and the “World Energy Day” on May 28th and 29th respectively. ECREEE will honour these two important dates in collaboration with the “Renewable Energy Centre and the Industrial Maintenance” (CERMI) and the University of Cabo Verde (UNICV).

Skills development is imperative to ECREEE, hence the commemoration of “International Energy Day and its defining activities designed to enhance understanding on critical energy issues.

The main highlights of the event would include outreach programmes aimed at raising awareness on the significance of renewable energy in ensuring energy efficiency, with special focus on the utilization and preservation of local resources.

The World Energy Day to be remembered with the theme: "Together we save more Energy," would provide the platform for the exchange of vital information on energy, as well as the development of energy efficiency strategies. The Cabo Verde government officials and strategic managers would also share their experiences and best practices on the development of both conventional and renewable energy policies.

The commemoration also seeks to inspire students in primary and secondary schools to continue their education in the field of energy with lectures and recreational activities to be held at Miraflores School in Cabo Verde and the city of Assomada in Santiago Island.

On May 29, there will be series of lectures at the Centre for Renewable Energy and Industrial Maintenance - CERMI in Praia. Major players in renewable energy such as the Cabo Verde Ministry of Energy and the Environment and Electra, among others are expected to participate in the forum.

The activities demonstrate ECREEE’s continued dedication to the development and promotion of renewable energy and energy efficiency with a view to provide clean, sustainable and affordable energy supply for each and every household within the ECOWAS sub-region.
